Global Warming

A lot of people out there don’t believe that climate change is not real, and that it is a part of the Earth’s normal climate cycle. They are semi-right I have to say, yes the Earth has a climate cycle, but that can happen over tens of thousands of years. We are in a climate crisis, and it is caused by humans. On Earth Day, I would like to explain to you

  • What is global warming?
  • Why is there global warming?
  • Where is the proof?
  • What can we do to stop global warming

What is Global Warming

IMG_0404 2

Global warming is when the climate starts to warm up. In this case, right now, it is the buildup of greenhouse gasses like CO2. I drew this image and you can see that when the atmosphere is healthy the sun’s heat is not trapped by our atmosphere. Unhealthy atmosphere with the build up with green house gasses creates a barrier where the heat of the sun gets trapped in the atmosphere and warms up the Earth. Remember it is heat that fuels storms.

Why do we have global warming?

Ever since the industrial revolution we have been releasing greenhouse gasses, and over time these green house gasses build up making it harder for heat to escape out, which in turn warms our planet. These green house gasses are apart of our atmosphere, but with CO2 released from machines in massive amounts our atmosphere gets unhealthy.

Where is the proof?

Alantic Hurricane seasons 1970-2016

I did an independent study on hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. This chart goes all the way back to 1970 to 2016. The light blue is the number of storms (Tropical Storms and Hurricanes), the purple is the number of hurricanes and the pink/red is the number of major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher). Over time you can see that the number of storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes are on the rise. Tornado pic

This chart shows the number of tornadoes in the United States. As you can see that there is a rise on the number of tornadoes as well as the chart above on hurricanes. I have all the reports on each Atlantic storm, each tornado since 1970 in a file cabinet. Some people worry that since Donald Trump is President that he will destroy all evidence of climate change, so I saved all of the records on flooding, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, storm reports, heat waves and other weather events so at least I have some proof that global warming is real.

What can we do to stop global warming?

Sadly we can’t stop global warming, but we can reduce the amount of our personal output of green house gasses. Using wind and solar power, take public transportation, go to work in a car pool and turning off electronics when they are not in use. The global community has taken action with the Paris Agreement where 99.5% of the worlds countries have signed the agreement to reduce their output of greenhouse gasses. Sadly, Donald Trump wants us to pull from the agreement, but if we speak up against him, show him the evidence, and warn him that this is a global crisis.

I take global warming very seriously, since I have seen the impact. Heat is one of the main ingredients for storms, Hurricanes, Severe Thunderstorms and Tornadoes, they all need heat. More heat will lead to stronger storms, storms that can take lives. That is why this is a crisis, soon we will see more Katrinas and more Greensboro Kansas storms, and more lives will be lost.
